Balachandran (ബാലചന്ദ്രന് ചുള്ളിക്കാട്) was born on July 30, 1957 in Paravur. Ernakulum, Kerala. He completes his graduation in English literature from Maharajas College, Ernakulam.
In 2000 he takes Buddhism as his religious conviction. He says that this cannot be called a translation from Hinduism because he was not at all a devotee of that faith. “I have not transformed as I have not been a supporter though I was a Hindu. I have now embrace Buddhism, not transformed to Buddhism. The difficulty with Hinduism is that it is a belief of societal position and set-ups. Your worth in Hinduism depends on the relatives in whom you were born,” he says.
Chullikkadu is marrying to the Malayalam poetess Vijayalakshmi. He retired from Kerala State Government service on July 31st 2013. He gets National Film Award for greatest Non-Feature movie recitation / ton Over for The 18 Elephants – 3 Monologues in 2003.
